Tom Hunter
Tom Hunter's work adresses some of the most powerful themes such as death, abandoned and lost. The dead people posing in the photographs seemed to have been placed in the focal point that immediately draws the attention of viewers so they can understand the hidden story. The below image is strong depicting grief and loss in a graveyard, this is a disturbing space but also welcoming to come to terms with loss. The empty Tower block pieces show an echo of the people that lived there but also how time has worn the furniture and wall paper. The second image shows evidence of destruction and clutter where the space has been neglected and left, there is a cold atmosphere in the space as it has been totally abandoned but has the feel that someone might still be living in it. Birch explains that Hunter's work is about important issues and themes and he isn't trying to disguise the serious of these images so that they appear more powerful.
"Tom Hunter has an approach to work that is both serious and considered. Rather than the veil of humour and irony that masks much of contemporary art..." (Birch,2010)
