New Side Project

I have decided to start a little side project, this will be purely model/ texture based with a turnaround video. I have taken my influence from Funko Pops and Dorbz to create my own toy range using the simplistic style they use. I worked on a generic design first to work out the style I will carry across for future models but this is based on my alter ego I was nicknamed at one of the previous places I worked "Boss man". I was originally just going to do a design for me but felt looking at a nickname and exploring that with superhero gimmicks would be much more fun.

I feel this project is at least possible to generate different characters and play around with different ideas and hopefully create a lot of content and wont to take up a lot of room to collect them! I hope this side project will be rewarding and allow to try some different types of texturing down the line.

Below is the influence map for my toy brand style

Dalek Textured

I'm sorry for the delay in posts due to working between different projects and job hunting, etc

But anyway I have textured the dalek!

I am happy how this is going so far and have remodeled some sections that I felt wasn't working in the previous version. I have put up two versions, one normal and one with the eye star and side head lights glowing which I will animate in the end sequence that I hope to create.

Lighting is temporary and will now look at highlights and different material behaviors and play more around with lighting.

Dalek Model

I have decided to do something a bit different and felt would be a bit of challenge and choose a Dalek from 2005-2009. I have will move forward and texture this and will also try and rig it so that I can animate it a bit as well

Yamaha Xenter 125 - Texture and Lighting

I seem to go in the dark for long bursts at a time but I have been working on other things through my internship and also working on a secret project with one of my friends.

I shall aim to become productive with my own work so that I can display more current samples, so to start off I went back to Yamaha Xenter model to texture and light it. I will create a turnaround for this at some point as well.

A New Logo for a New Year

We have arrived in 2014 and realised I haven't posted anything for a while so thought I would use some of the design processes that I learnt on my internship to create designs for my own work.

I have made a logo that is corporate and bold but above all else simple and shall be using this on my work, pages, etc.

Music Choice for Frost Turnaround

I found a few pieces that could of worked but this felt best suited to the character

Update: I have switched the music choice as I realized that this was the actual track I wanted, a soft beat with a sudden pulse that has an icy wind feel.

Video research for Turnarounds

I looked up different Character Turnarounds and selected ones that I felt where relevant or could use ideas from them.

Jack Frost MK 2 - Rig Set up

Another Update to show that the Rigging is finished and this character is ready to pose, I am going to research around this and try some things before rendering a turnaround. I am also thinking about making a few props e.g. ice formations that can appear in the background to make the space around the character come to life.

Jack Frost MK 2 - Skinned

I am ready to set up the controls, I am aiming to have a turnaround finished for this character for now but might return to this if I get more time as I am also currently working on other projects. So far I am happy with this character and seems to be moving forward smoothly.

Jack Frost Mk 2 - Mudbox Final Model

Over the last few days, I have been working into my model using Mudbox, I did some trails first and eventually produced a version I was happy with. I extracted a normal map from what I did in Mudbox and then added that to my model.

Jack Frost MK 2 - Model Complete

I have finally finished modelling the character as I had a few issues with the head and head piece on some occasions but eventually got it to a stage that I wanted. I shall layout the UV's first and hope to add further details in Mudbox to bring out more of the design of the armor and ice formations.

Jack Frost Concept Development

I took the stage that I got up to in the project and worked back into with lines as this helped a lot with my last characters to break up pieces easier. I started with how it is looking now with development stages below. I shall work in some more shadows and highlights and further details where needed.
