Final influence map

The most important images in this map are the compsitions with a strong colour of light creating emotion in the atmosphere which was my visual concept for the three pieces. There is also the structures and scale in the compositions that influenced me with the perspective and viewpoints.

Working back into concept 3 - Coast

Following from more feedback from Phil I erased the strong light at the other end of the composition and added subtle purple highlights instead. I also used a brush to scatter the sand colour on the objects in the foreground to look like it's been kicked up onto these surfaces. I added foam around the rock formations in the water and resolved the problem on the crisp edges of the sand and water. I scaled everything up and darkened the composition. I feel this is more successful because the space feels more like a cave as everything is tight and restricted.

Working back into concept 2 - Mushroom Forest

Following Phil's feedback, I have scattered more light on the right mushroom to give a three dimensional quality, I have added small mounds of earth around the mushrooms to give the impression that these forms forced the ground open to grow into this space. I also added soft shadows casted from the right to show the impact that strong blue light is projecting. I made some small extra changes of my own which were lighting some of the objects so they look more defined, lighting the ground and adding more of the cracked ground texture I created to finish the image.

Concept 3 - Coast completed

This is the coast concept resolved I made sure everything was at the correct and strencthed the canvas out to make sure it is in the right ratio. I particularly like the purple sparkles because this feels very impressionist and mystical. I have included the prgressing stages to show how I got to this image.

Developing concept 3 further

I added more into the composition to make the structure of the space more interesting. I then scattered the brush to make the space sparkle from the different reflections of light. I needed to extend the canvas so that scale can be more emphasised but I like the developments from the previous image and is slowly improving.

Concept 2 - Mushroom forest completed

I have made little tweaks to complete this concept by slightly increasing shadow where light was overpowering detail. I added little flecks of light on the floor and made the mushroom on the left taller to give the impression that these life forms would tower over a person. I have added the progressing stages below to show how I got to this final image.

Concept 1 - Volcanic cave completed

I reworked into the image increasing shadow and red light where needed and feel that the composition has come together exactly as I envisioned. Underneath I have added the progress stages to show how I got to this stage.

Developing for final concept 3

I changed a lot from my previous image because I wanted to bring the cave closer to see more of the coast. There are parts of this compostion that I like and dislike, for instance the coast itself feels bare and there is nothing to suggest that the space is still enclosed as part of the cave, I like the formation in the foreground that acts like a window to draw you into the space. I need to rework the composition using ideas from other thumbnails and possibly try to change the viewpoint because there is no indication of scale at this stage.

Developing for final concept 2

I decided to change the forms of the mushrooms because I felt the previous ones in the experiment wasn't working. I added different shades of blue for where the light source would hit. I increased the light at the other end of the space to give the impression of the space continuing onto the next chamber. I added new rock shapes that make the formation of the cave more interesting. I also created a cracked ground texture to show how it has become fragile where these mushrooms has grown up from underneath. This is hard to see because of the amount of light dominating it so I will consider this when developing further.
